My first ambition was to be a teacher; I think I was 4?

Later on I decided that being an astronaut is much cooler,

and through the years I've wanted to be an actor, a scientist, a journalist......

It didn't settle, at least not until 14 - after attending a performance that inspired me so deeply.

From then onwards, I became madly in love with music and the violin.

A chance to learn the violin under prefessional guidance didn't come easy for a small town boy -

what I've been through was nothing in comparison to those of the great musicians,

but it wasn't exactly 一帆风顺.

That is why I gotta thank my family, my teachers and all my friends,

for all the effort and encouragement.

I'm made a better performer and musician because of you.

And for this I shall perform my best to bring music alive, and be proud of myself.

It all started when Mr H asked if I would like to join the

rehearsals and performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony -

(you know) I nodded.

That happened during my entrance audition, which was March 2008.

It subsequently led to a quartet performance, and a Germany concert tour -

all before July when we officially began schooling.

Today, as classmates for 3 years, we had our final lecture together.

Taking a class photo became mandatory, to commemorate our friendship,

and the eventful 3 years we spent here.

All memories, whether sweet or sorrow - are now archived.

I wonder if I shall bring my camera to school tomorrow,

to take some snaps of our last schooling day;

and so I left the 18-135 EF-S lens in school (deliberately!), the answer is apparent, NO?

Ancient Facts & Figures: Mervin, Ji Min and I first met and befriended each other

in this very hall during an evening rehearsal in March 2008.

It was no where to be found.

Then there it was - in my locker, afterall.

Not at the compartment I usually keep it though.

but I treasure this very one which I've been using since I was a kid.

It had seen me growing as a musician.

It striked me to blog when I attended my friend's party last night.

My 21st. 5th Feb 2011. Exactly 15 days ago.

I had breakfast & lunch with my family and relatives.

I practised the violin. I fed my dogs. I surfed the net.

I phoned my past teachers to wish them a prosperous CNY.

I drove around the my hometown running errands for the celebration.

... and there it came the party.

Thanks you, papa & mummy. For everything.

Thank you, to all who helped: my aunt, maid, sister, friends....

For me, friends are people as important as family.

It was a heartfelt decision to kill the final hours of my 20th

with this bunch of high school classmates whom I matured with.

I have been coaching the little boys and gals back in

my high school's string ensemble whenever I return to my hometown.

It is voluntary, but in many ways it is a responsibility as an alumnus.

Overtones wasn't a concert so successful to be complimented,

but what was noteworthy and apparent was the enthusiasm among the youths.

Not the most ideal venue to perform in, but be grateful,

for most secondary schools can't afford a hall like this!

Oriental Metropolis.

Months have gone by since my third visit to HK last September.

But since I've blogged about Disneyland,

why not just upload some pictures of the metropolis?

In many ways Hong Kong and Singapore are identical.

Both cities have impressive city view by the harbour.

They both have ports to deal with with tons of containers each day.

Advanced rail system accomodating the commuters;

Hectic pace of city life.

Luxury boutiques everywhere.

(for this, SG is still on its way becoming one)

HK babies will know LV, Hermès and Chanel before they know Giordano.

... and even the chocolates are branded!

Berlin Philharmonic, or Berliner Philharmoniker.

A top notch orchestra with a root tracing back to more than 120 years.

It is undoubtedly among the finest,

alongside with the few first ranking ensembles,

like New York Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestra.

Two evenings of amazing repertoires.

I am satisfied despite the flaws which were rather surprising.

Encore Pas de deux from Nutcracker reminds me of my days back in MPYO.

What comes next? Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra?

Life in Singapore is hectic, and only the fittest survive.

There is no mercy even for the kids studying in SYT.

I saw a mother hitting her 5-year-old son barehanded,

yelling that he didn't practise enough for the coming exam.

I felt sorry for the sobbing little boy.

My mum had never punished me in such physical manner

for not practising the piano or violin.

Music should be played with love.

A foul mood will lead practising to nowhere.

We must understand that little Mozart is not everywhere to be found.

Not killing a kid's passion and interest in playing an instrument is already a success.
